OUR MISSOURI RIVER CABIN

While waiting to move into our home in Yankton, Dean and I rented a little house, more like a cabin, along the Missouri River. This dwelling consisted of solid glass windows, ceiling to floor, on three sides. It was located in a hollow, with the Missouri River dominating the front view, surrounded by forested hillsides.

One notably pleasant Autumn day, Dean chose to go for a hike In the woods surrounding our cabin. It was a sunny day. The Forest was sparsely clad in Fall attire, enabling me to view his assent to the crest of the hill. I read while occasionally looking outward to see what he was about.

After some time, Dean started his decline toward the cabin. He was clearly delighted, with flapping of arms, jumping and leaping on the descent, advancing with accelerating locomotion. I became more and more concerned, just as he tripped over brush, propelling him into a FULL-FORWARD FLIP through the air before LANDING SAFELY ON HIS FEET. By that time, I was standing in the window. Dean saw me watching him, knowing I had witnessed his entire performance, WITH A GINORMOUS SMILE ON HIS FACE.

Take a bow, Dean, for showing us the Viking Way! I’ll see you in our next life.
